Aid to lockdown-hit poor people continues

GUWAHATI/JORABAT, April 25 - In a bid to help the needy amid the nationwide lockdown to curb spread of coronavirus, the 128 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday distributed dry ration, masks and other items among over 300 needy people in Marokdola area under Sonapur revenue circle.

The 128 Bn of the CRPF, under the guidance of DIG Range Guwahati JPK Ray and Commandant Surjit Kumar Atri, also distributed nutritious meals making sure the hygiene standards are not compromised.

The CRPF officers also called for use of soap to ensure that people wash their hands before eating. The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of Cotton University on Thursday distributed ration and other necessities to 64 needy families of Nijpanbari at Chandrapur, a village adopted by the university under its UBA programme.

The packets that were distributed contained rice, pulses, oil, salt, sugar, tea, potatoes, onions and soap cakes.

Joint coordinator of UBA Cell Dr Narayan Sharma, accompanied by students Manab Talukdar and Dhiraj Das, visited Nijpanbari to distribute the materials with due permission and full cooperation from the DSP (Admin), Guwahati.

Gaonburha of Nijpanbari village Prasanta Ranghang had all arrangements ready with the villagers maintaining social distancing and ASHA workers rendering full support by providing sanitizers and supervision.

Cotton University has adopted five villages and similar work will be done in the remaining villages within the next few weeks. Earlier, materials were also distributed to needy families of another village Chakardeo- Kalitapara adopted under UBA, by Dr Narayan Sharma.
