Aid to flood victims continues

GUWAHATI, July 29 - Relief materials and monetary assistance continue to pour in for the flood-affected people of Assam with various forums, organisations and individuals coming to their aid in the last few days.

The CMD of the Aakash Educational Services Ltd, New Delhi, JC Chaudhry, has donated Rs 51 lakh to the Chief Minister�s Relief Fund. The cheque was handed over to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal here today by Nandini Dutta, director, Aakash Institutes, Guwahati and Silchar centres, stated a press release.

The Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) has made a contribution of Rs 10 lakh to the CM�s Relief Fund. FINER president Pabitra Buragohain handed over the cheque to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday. FINER has also been conducting several camps, distributing relief materials to the flood-hit people.

The Kamakhya Devalaya management committee has contributed Rs 5 lakh to the Relief Fund.

FLO Northeast reached out to about 600 flood-affected families in Bezpara Hajo, Borighat Hajo, Goromsum, Hirapara, Hajo Borpulla, Borghuli Baranghati and Sauramuri Baranghati areas. FLO members raised funds to the tune of about Rs 2.5 lakh for the flood-affected families and distributed essentials among them, besides goodies among the children of these areas.

With the intent of bringing the attention of the nation towards the issues concerning region as well as to garner support from all, FLO Northeast has also mobilised significant contributions to the CM�s Relief Fund from the members of FLO chapters across the country.

Meanwhile, a team of doctors and staff of KGMT Multi-speciality Hospital (under Dr Kuntal Goswami Memorial Trust), Guwahati, visited Bongsar near Sualkuchi, Majgaon Changsari, and Manahkuchi village near Hajo and distributed food, drinking water, emergency medicines and sanitisers among the affected people. They distributed cheques worth Rs l,00,000 altogether to 12 most affected families of Manahkuchi village. Health checkup was also done in the flood-hit areas and free medicines distributed.

Yesterday, members of the Retired ACS Officers� Forum distributed flood relief among 50 families of Belguri in the Panikhaiti area. The team was led by the Forum�s seniormost members Ajit Borkataky and Syed Hasinur Rahman. The Revenue Circle Officer of Chandrapur and local public extended support to the team in organising the programme.

The NSS unit of Cotton University in collaboration with NCC unit of the institution, along with Youth for Seva and Democratic Students� Forum of Assam, distributed flood relief at Hajo on Sunday.
