Aid to ailing scribe, poet

GUWAHATI, Aug 19 - The condition of senior journalist Hiten Mahanta, who has been undergoing treatment at the GNRC Hospitals, Six Mile, since August 5, has improved slightly. He, however, continues to be in the ICU of the hospital.

According to the doctors, Mahanta was brought to the hospital in a critical condition as he suffered multiple head injuries after falling on the road in the Chunchali area of the city.

Since Mahanta�s treatment is going to be long, the Journalists� Forum Assam (JFA) has appealed to his well-wishers to support the family at this time of crisis.

Meanwhile, the Ajmal Foundation has donated Rs 20,000 for his treatment.

It may be mentioned here that the Ajmal Foundation had earlier donated Rs 50,000 to ailing poet Sananta Tanti who is undergoing treatment in a Delhi hospital.

Girindra Saikia, a journalist associated with Assamese daily Gana Adhikar, who had met with a serious road accident and was hospitalised for over a week, was also extended medical assistance of Rs 25,000 under the Ajmal Media Welfare Scheme.
