SHILLONG, March 29 - North Eastern Hill University�s (NEHU) School of Technology would get AICTE approval within a week, Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani announced here today.
Making the announcement, Irani also said that a centre for coaching programmes for various competitive examinations for SC/ST and women candidates will be set up at NEHU.
�The School of Technology has been battling for AICTE approval for the last one decade,� Irani said while addressing the University�s 23rd Convocation.
Earlier, the NEHU Student�s Union petitioned Irani to get the School of Technology approved by AICTE.
The Union Minister also stated that a centre would be established to document the culture and history of the North East.
Meanwhile, 10,294 candidates received their degrees at the Convocation. Out of this, 2,570 students received their degrees in person and 7,724 in absentia.
On this occasion, first woman chairperson of UPSC-Rose Milian Bathew (Kharbuli) and boxer MC Mary Kom received their Doctor of Letter (D Litt) for their contribution in their respective fields.
Bathew was awarded D Litt for her contribution in teaching and public administration. Ace boxer, Mary Kom was awarded D Litt for her contributions in the sporting arena.
