AICC secretary to visit Tripura today

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, June 26 - AICC secretary Bhupen Bora would be arriving here on a three-day visit to take stock of the partys organisational strength in the poll-bound State, according to sources on Sunday.

Bora will join three district committee conferences at Dharmangar on June 28, at Kailashahar on June 29 and at Ambassa on June 30. PCC president Birajit Sinha and CLP leader Gopal Roy are expected to accompany the AICC secretary in the conferences.

The visit of Bora assumes significance in view of next years Assembly elections and partys downfall in the Marxist-ruled State. Sources said, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has asked Bora to visit the State and submit a report on the latest status of the party after a series of setbacks.

According to political analysts, the Congress is immersed in deep crisis after six of its MLAs quit the party and another senior party leader and MLA Ratan Lal Nath ready to join BJP very shortly.

It is likely that the party will suspend Nath who has been helping the BJP over the past few months. Nath is adamant on joining the BJP to consolidate BJPs move for toppling the Marxist Government in 2018 Assembly elections.

Bora after visiting the State is expected to submit his report to the AICC vice president for taking steps for the partys revival in the CPM-ruled State.

There are indications that the Congress will contest the 2018 Assembly polls with full strength even as the party is struggling to cope with the rapidly changing political scanario in the State. However, the AICC will take the final call, according to PCC sources.
