AHRC restores pension of widow

GUWAHATI, April 2 - The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has successfully disposed a case of widow pension discontinuation, ensuring justice to the complainant.

The rights� body took cognizance of a complaint petition filed by one Rajendra Madhab Tamuli whereby it was alleged that his aunt, Phuleswari Das, wife of the late Robin Das of Ujani Majuli, was getting widow pension under the scheme IGNWPS till March 2017, after which it was discontinued.

It was alleged that the department concerned has not provided any assistance to the widow despite getting requests on several occasions.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, a single bench of the Commission comprising Naba Kamal Borah, Member, issued notice to the CEO, Zila Parishad, Majuli, Assam, on 24/1/2019 in AHRC Case No. 2495 of 18-19(7) to submit an enquiry report in this regard within one month of receiving the report.

On March 26, 2019 the Commission received a communication through email from the complainant Rajendra Madhab Tamuli informing that the widow pension of Phuleswari Das has been disbursed by the Department of Panchayat and Rural Development.

Tamuli has thanked the Commission for helping his widowed aunt get her pension.
