AHRC orders probe into lynching incident

GUWAHATI, June 14 - The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has ordered a magisterial probe into the mob lynching incident at Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong. Taking a suo motu cognizance on the issue, the rights panel has written to the district magistrate of Karbi Anglong for a thorough probe on the situation leading to the gruesome killing of two Guwahati youths in Panjuri village of the district.

A team of AHRC, led by its chairman Justice T Vaiphei today visited the residences of both Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath in Silpukhuri and Six Mile areas of Guwahati respectively. Yesterday, the team, including the members of the commission Deba Kumar Saikia and NK Bora visited the incident site in Karbi Anglong along with the district administration officials.

The inquiry has been ordered against the AHRC Case No 2317/8/18-19 and another case AHRC 2318/8/18-19, which has been filed by All Assam Unemployed Association.
