By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 25 - The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has ordered an inquiry into the electrocution incident in Barpeta district on July 17, in which four children lost their lives.

A division bench of the Commission, comprising its Chairman Dr. Justice AH Saikia and Member Tarun Phookan issued notice to the Commissioner and Secretary, Home and Political Department to cause an inquiry into the tragic incident by a senior official and submit the report within 30 days.

Four children, namely Rakibul Khan (10), Sona Khan (8), Abdul Halim (9) and Saiful Rahman (10), were on their way to cut grass on the bank of Beki Rivulet at Amguri village. While they were crossing the river, a high voltage wire fell into the rivulet and all four were electrocuted.

Negligence on the part of the authorities concerned in not taking appropriate safety measures while installing and maintaining such wires in the locality was widely criticized after incident.
