GUWAHATI, March 13 A division bench of the Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) comprising Dr Justice AH Saikia and T Phookan had issued notice to the Chief Secretary of Assam to submit a detailed report within two weeks as to what steps have taken in order to tackle, control and contain the outbreak of swine flu.
The notice was issued after the Commission had taken suo-motu cognizance of news items published in vernacular and English dailies of the State on H1N1 outbreak.
It was reported that at least 10 cases of the dreaded pandemic have so far been detected in Assam, out of which two have proved to be fatal.
The Regional Medical Research Centre (Northeastern Region) of Lahowal in Dibrugarh is the only authorized Medical Centre to carry out the tests for the disease although another Centre of the kind has reportedly been set up in the GMCH also.
Although the State Government has reportedly taken measures to prevent the onslaught of the disease and make people aware of the symptoms of the disease, certain apprehensions continue to be there, stated a press release issued by the Commission.
