Ahead of Assembly Polls, Cong Forms 7 Committees

NEW DELHI, Jan 25: Ahead of the Assam Assembly polls, the Congress has constituted seven committees including the all-powerful election and campaign committees.

The AICC has undertaken an ingenious exercise by trying to involve as many as senior and influential leaders of the Assam Congress in the various committees. The committees include the Assam Election Committee, Campaign Committee, Coordination, Publicity, Manifesto, Election Management, Media and Communication and Outreach Committees, according to an order issued by general secretary KC Venugopal.

The 24-member Election Committee is headed by PCC president Ripun Bora and vice chairman is Debobrata Saikia and includes all party MPs. The 50-member Campaign Committee is headed by Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi and Bhupen Bora is the vice chairman.

Ripun Bora is the chairman of the 28-member Coordination Committee, which will have former Union minister Paban Singh Ghatowar as the vice chairman. The three MPs, including Gaurav Gogoi, Ranee Narah and Abdul Khaleque, are also part of the committee.

The 27-member Publicity Committee will be headed by Rockibul Hussain. The 31-member Manifesto Committee will be headed by Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi and will have two vice chairmen, Kamalakhkya Dey Purkayastha and Rup Jyoti Kurmi. The Election Management Committee will be headed by Ram Prasad Sharma and Brojen Kumar Hendique will be the vice chairman.

The 15-member Media and Communication Committee will be headed by Abdul Khaleque Lok Sabha MP.
