GUWAHATI, Aug 29 - The State government is laying special emphasis on ensuring that the animal husbandry & veterinary department plays a pivotal role in becoming an economic facilitator. Steps have been initiated to increase livestock production, animal health care and to make animal husbandry an important component of the State�s economy.

Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Minister Atul Bora, while addressing the seminar cum biannual conference of the AH & veterinary department here yesterday, highlighted the progress made by the department in various sectors during the last couple of years. In this context Bora mentioned the steps taken to increase egg production in the State and to control the diseases afflicting the livestock.

Bora disclosed that to give a boost to creating employment avenues, training is being imparted to youths on the latest concepts in the animal husbandry sector.

The seminar was also addressed by the Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University Dr KM Bujarbaruah, ALPCO Chairman Manoj Saikia, NABARD Chief General Manager Rajashri Baruah, Commissioner and Secretary Veterinary Shyam Jagannathan, Agriculture Production Commissioner VS Bhaskar, CEO CMSGUY RT Jindal and Director AH & veterinary department Dr PC Das among others, said a press release today.
