GUWAHATI, Dec 10 - The All Guwahati Students� Union (AGSU) observed Swahid Divas today at Swahid Udyan, Paltan Bazar offering tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Agitation and remembering their contributions towards the cause of the State.
The daylong programme started with hoisting of the AASU and Assam Unnati Sabha flags by AGSU president Anowar Hussain and Guwahati Unnati Sabha general secretary Dr Jogesh Deka respectively.
The tribute programme was led by noted poet and active member of the Assam Movement Bhupen Chakrabarty.
An all-faith prayer was held on the occasion where portions from the Bhagawat, Bible, Quran and Guru Granth Sahib were recited. Teams of ayotis from Latakata, Fatasil Ambari and Birkuchi presented naam prasanga during the event.
The programme was also attended by AASU vice president Bipul Rabha, State executive member Raifuddin Ahmed and office-bearers of the Kamrup Metro unit of the student body. In the evening, earthen lamps were lit in memory of the martyrs. Apart from AGSU�s central Swahid Divas programme in Guwahati, other city units and college units of the student body organised tribute programmes in different parts of the city.
