GUWAHATI, Aug 1 - With the beginning of the new academic year in the colleges, the All Guwahati Students Union (AGSU) has launched an anti-ragging awareness drive in the colleges of Guwahati through streetplays that explain the ill-effects of ragging.

As part of the initiative, streetplays were staged in the premises of Cotton College, Handique Girls College, Gauhati Commerce College and B Borooah College.

The motto of this initiative is to make the new students feel secure and confident in the new environment of college as well as college hostels. Ragging might have very adverse and long-lasting effect on the minds and academic performance of the new students. No student should be victimised in the name of ragging, the student body said.

A number of students, teachers as well as parents lauded the initiative and extended their support during the event. Similar plays would be staged in other colleges of the city in the coming days.
