GUWAHATI, June 23 - Hundreds of students today staged a demonstration at the Dighalipukhuripar under the banner of the All Guwahati Students Union (AGSU) in protest against the State governments failure to find a solution to the perennial flash flood problem in Guwahati. Demanding a permanent solution of the problem, the protestors criticised the State government for not making sufficient efforts to address the problem.

Holding placards against the GMC, GMDA and other departments, the students said that the present government was voted to power, with expectations for some change, which did not occur despite one year of the present government.

All the government departments concerned are shifting the blame to one another. There is a clear lack of initiative on the part of the administration to solve the problem, AGSU president Rajmil Ali and general secretary Raifuddin Ahmed said.
