By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 6 An agriculture inspector, Gobin Bardoloi, was arrested by police at Dibrugarh late last night on the charge of hoarding and illegal supply of agricultural materials.

An official statement said that the arrest followed a directive to that effect by the Agriculture Minister who had ordered a crackdown on hoarding and other illegalities concerning farm materials meant for farmers.

Bardoloi was found to be hoarding a huge amount of materials such as chemical fertilizer, pesticide, etc., at the godown of a businessman of Tengakhat, Gaurishankar Agarwala, the statement said, adding that similar materials were also seized from the house of a businessman M Sarkar. The district administration had also seized five godowns of the Agriculture Department after finding large-scale anomalies.

It may be mentioned that there have been reports of widespread anomalies in the distribution of farm materials with the result that those were not reaching the intended beneficiaries.
