Agricultural service officers resent delay in promotion

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 3 - Expressing disappointment over delay in the promotion of a number of officials whose names have been cleared earlier by a selection committee, the Assam Agricultural Service Officers Association (AASOA) today called upon the State government to take immediate steps in this regard.

In a letter to the Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Processing, the AASOA said a number of senior agricultural development officers (SrADOs) and agriculture development officers (ADOs) have been working for decades without securing a single promotion.

It said a meeting of the Departmental Selection Committee (DSC) was held on November 5, 2018, under the chairmanship of the then Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Agriculture Department and APC, and added that the DSC had cleared the names of 79 SrADOs and ADOs.

The DSC had selected 79 officers, which was duly approved from your end. But in spite of your approval, the matter was not cleared by the department. The aggrieved officers, who have been serving the department for more than 30 years without any promotion, are now frustrated and eagerly waiting for the first promotion in their service life, stated AASOA.

It called upon the Minister to look into the matter and take steps to implement the recommendation of the selection committee.
