Agri-horticultural show from Feb 10

GUWAHATI, Feb 4 � The second Assam International Argi-Horticultural Show, 2015 will be held at the College of Veterinary Science playground at Khanapara from February 10 to 14.

The five-day show will have participation from various countries including the US, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Israel, Italy, China, South Korea, Netherlands, Canada, Thailand, Nepal and others. In addition to the seven sister States, most Indian States will also participate in the show.

The event will focus on technology, innovation, inspiration in agriculture, horticulture, floriculture and allied sectors.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will inaugurate the event at 11:30 am in the presence of dignitaries from the region.

Organised by the State Department of Agriculture, in association with the Indian Chamber of Commerce and the Assam Agricultural University, the show is planned for increased exposure of innovation and inspiration in agriculture and horticulture. The show will also feature seminars on various issues in tropical horticulture, floriculture and agriculture.

The Agriculture Department expects the show to establish a chain of organised flower markets in the State, starting with Sukleswar in Guwahati, Jorhat, Kokrajhar, Dibrugarh and Silchar. The department also envisions a flower growers� group in every district of Assam.

The show will also impart hands-on training to farmers and entrepreneurs on organic farming, commercial agriculture and advanced farming system. There will be competition on potted flowers, bonsai, medicinal plants, fruits and vegetables, spot salad preparation and other decorations. An ethnic food festival is also being organised.
