AGPs protest rally against Centres decision

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 18 The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will take out a procession in the city on May 20 in support of its demand for revocation of the latest Central Government decision to annul the pronouncement that granted Assam a Special Category State status.

On that day, the regional party members will also raise the demands for the abrogation of the Indo-Bangla land swap deal, according Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the six ethnic groups of the State and steps to arrest the hike in the prices of essential commodities.

The AGP said in a statement here today that it was due to its arduous efforts that the State could secure the Special State status. This enabled it to obtain special financial assistance and other financial benefits in implementing Central schemes and thus helped it overcome the financial crisis.

The funding pattern of 90:10 per cent resulting from this arrangement needs special mention in this regard, said the regional party in its statement. The BJP-led Central government has adopted a discriminatory policy against the State and trying to deprive the State of its Special State status.
