GUWAHATI, March 3 � Thousands of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) members today took out a �Dispur Chalo� march in protest against the alleged misrule and rampant corruption of the Congress-led Government in the State and also against the �deception� of the people of Assam by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central Government.
The procession, which started from the playground of the Veterinary College at Khanapara, was led by AGP president Atul Bora. Former Chief Minister PK Mahanta, former president of the party Thaneswar Boro, AGP Legislature Party leader Phani Bhusan Choudhury, general secretaries Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Dr Kamala Kalita, Keshab Mahanta, Durga Das Boro, Pradip Hazarika and Utpal Dutta, MLAs Padma Hazarika, Prabin Hazarika, Bhupen Roy, Mukundaram Choudhury, Naba Kumar Doley, senior leaders Gunin Hazarika, Birendra Prasad Baishya, Kumar Dipak Das, Nurul Hussain, Dilip Kumar Saikia, Rekharani Das Boro and Pabindra Deka, among others, took part in the procession.
Besides, office-bearers and members of the youth, women, peasant and labour wings of the party also took part in it.
The participants of the procession squatted on the main road when the police prevented them near the Dispur Super Market from proceeding further, said a press release.
They held an impromptu meeting at the spot and flayed the �misrule� and �corruption� of the Congress-led Government in the State and the �deceitful moves� of the BJP-led Central Government like handing over Assam land to Bangladesh, grant of citizenship to Bangla nationals, �conspiracy� to build mega dam projects in the NE region, handing of farmers� land to capitalists with the introduction of the legislation to acquire land and schemes to link the rivers of the region with those of the other regions.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by AGP president Atul Bora, PK Mahanta, Kumar Dipak Das and Sunil Rajkonwar.
