AGPLP meet to decide new leader

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 4 The Asom Gana Parishad Legislature Party (AGPLP) is going to elect its new leader today. Though the meeting was scheduled to commence this evening, till the filing of this report at 8 pm, it remained to start.

The meeting has to be convened with the decision of party president Chandra Mohan Patowary to step down from the post of the AGPLP leader honouring the principle of one man one post.

Party sources are of the opinion that the chances of former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta being elected as the AGPLP leader is brighter following the rejection of the feeler for the post by former party president Brindaban Goswami.

However, there will be some problems concerning organizational principles in appointing Mahanta as the AGPLP leader. For, the party general body had earlier adopted a resolution that the new entrants would not be allowed to secure any party post at least for three years, sources pointed out.
