AGP youth wing protests Swamys remarks

By Staff correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Nov 26 Condemning BJP leader Subramanian Swamy for insulting the historic Assam Accord and making communal statements during his visit to Assam, the Dibrugarh district unit of the Asom Yuba Parishad has demanded his arrest.

The BJP leader had reportedly said that the Assam Accord has become outdated and needs amendment. He had also said that if an illegal Bangaldeshi Muslim migrant was ready to convert to Hinduism, he should be allowed to stay in India.

The Asom Yuba Parishad unit alleged that the BJP leader was trying to create a communal divide among the people of Assam by making such statements. He has also insulted the people of Assam and all the martyrs of the Assam Agitation besides Indias Parliament because the Assam Accord was endorsed by the Parliament, said Ganesh Gogoi, president of the Asom Yuba Parishad, Dibrugarh district committee.

The Asom Yuba Parishad, the youth wing of the Asom Gana Parishad, led by its president Sunil Rajkonwar, also submitted a memorandum to the Assam Governor today through the district administration here. The youth body demanded Swamys immediate arrest and said that if the BJP leader did not apologise for his objectionable comments, he should not be allowed to enter Assam.

The Parishad has also demanded a clarification from the State BJP unit on the statements made by Swamy.
