By Correspondent

NALBARI, Nov 2 - The Nalbari Bidhan Parishad of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has strongly opposed leaving the Nalbari LAC seat for the BJP in the coming Assembly elections to be held in 2021.

A decision to this effect was taken at a party meeting held at Khatikuchi village in Nalbari district on Sunday. The AGP leaders and supporters opined that even though the constituency is a stronghold of the party, the Central leadership left the seat to the BJP in the 2016 Assembly polls. This time the AGP supporters are not in a mood to leave the seat to its alliance partner at any cost.

The meeting presided over by Naren Das, president of the Nalbari Bidhan Parishad of AGP was addressed by the partys central leaders Ananda Rajbangshi, Dilip Patgiri, Asom Yuba Parishads central president Jitu Buhragohain, general secretary Arnab Bharali among others. In his speech, Rajbangshi said that the party workers of the constituency which was captured by the regional outfit five times, have got frustrated as the party left the seat to BJP along with two other seats of the district. The grassroot workers of the LAC is adamant not to allow the seat to BJP in the next election, he added.

Speaking in the meeting, Naren Das said that the three Bidhan Parishads of the district have already informed the party high command about the sentiment of the grassroot workers in written. The party supporters want the AGPs central committee leader Dilip Das as candidate from the constituency, he added.

In the welcome address, central executive body member Dilip Das said that the AGP is still in a strong position in the constituency. In the meeting around 300 people from BJP, Congress and AIUDF joined the regional outfit. It may be mentioned here that the Nalbari LAC is presently held by BJP candidate Ashok Sarma.
