GUWAHATI, Oct 23 � The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will make the issue of mega dam an election plank in the forthcoming 2011 Assembly polls. The party, if voted to power, will make all the NE mega dam projects abandoned. The party�s district committees will take out processions opposing the mega dam projects on October 27 and send memorandums to the Prime Minister on the issue, said party president Chandra Mohan Patowary.
Patowary, who was addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, said that the devastations caused by the Ranganadi, the Kurichu hydel projects made his party realize the destructive character of such hydel projects.
The party was earlier supporting multi-purpose dam projects. But, now on, it will be relying on the opinions of the experts on such matters, said the AGP president.
