GUWAHATI, May 15 - NDA constituent Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will hold workers� meetings in the district and constituency levels across the State from the second week of June with a view to strengthen the organisational base of the party and carry out reforms in the grass-root.
This decision was taken at the meeting of the regional party�s general council here today.
The meeting was attended by AGP president Atul Bora, working president Keshab Mahanta, former president Brindaban Goswami, general secretaries Birendra Prasad Baishya, Dr Kamalakanta Kalita, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Utpal Dutta, Prodip Hazarika, Nurul Hussain, Bhupen Rai, State Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury and other central leaders, besides presidents and secretaries of the party�s district committees.
During the meeting, a decision was taken to direct all senior office-bearers and party members to spend time at the constituencies and districts to focus more on organisational activities to strengthen the base of the party.
Bora, as party president, was authorised to appoint �in-charges� for each of the 126 Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) segment of the State.
The general council of AGP expressed concern over what it termed as efforts by certain elements to sabotage the ongoing NRC update process and decided to send a delegation to meet the State NRC Coordinator in this regard.
It also called for action against those responsible for the recent incident of defacement at the AASU office at Basugaon.
The party extended its felicitations to the students who have successfully cleared the Class 10 exams conducted by the SEBA.
A decision was taken to send a delegation to meet the officials of the State and the Centre with regard to efforts to reach an amicable solution to inter-state boundary disputes.
The general council also stressed on strengthening the disciplinary mechanism within the party.
A decision was also taken to send a high-level delegation to New Delhi to meet Union government officials to discuss the matter of revival of the paper mills, besides that of constitutional safeguards for the indigenous communities of the State and granting of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six communities.
AGP general council opposed any attempt to privatise the oilfields and other natural resources of the State.
The party condemned the recent circular of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) regarding review of allocation of periods to physical and health education, work education and art education, and called for its withdrawal.
