AGP slams Cong, BJP over NRC

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 23 The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today alleged that the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are trying to disrupt the process of updating of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) by going against the indigenous peoples of the state.

Both the parties have been taking recourse to mean politics to include the names of the foreign nationals illegally staying in Assam in the document going against the spirit of the Assam Accord.

While Congress former Ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma and Dr Ardhendu Dey and its present Forest Minister Atowa Munda are speaking against the norms set for updating the NRC, the BJP-led Central Government is trying to include the names of the foreign nationals on the communal lines, alleged AGP general secretary Durga Das Boro in a statement.

He also alleged that the present Governor of Assam has been acting like the Chief Minister of the state.
