AGP slams Cong-AIUDF bonding

By Correspondent

SIVASAGAR, March 16 - A massive rally of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was held at Jhanji under Amguri Assembly Constituency on Sunday in which AGP leaders attacked the Congress-AIUDF bonding, saying that Badruddin Ajmal has become the beacon light for the helpless Congress.

AGP president Atul Bora, addressing party workers, said that those who have been trying to set up a new political party opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, will be the B team of the Congress-AIUDF combine. The people of Assam have understood why the AGP was still rooted to the soil and the people, and why it has not sided with the CAA agitationists, he added.

AGP executive president Keshab Mahanta said that the Congress-AIUDF alliance will only help the NDA and they will again be in power in Assam after the 2021 elections.

AGP leader Pradip Hazarika, AGP Yuva Parishad president Nityananda Kalita also spoke on the occasion. The meeting was also attended by Renupoma Rajkhowa, Bhaben Bharali, Naren Sonowal, Hiranya Konwar, Bipul Kotoky, Anil Gogoi, Nurul Hussain, Sunil Deka and Diganata Konwar.

The AGP rally drew flak from various quarters as leaders like Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta, despite being ministers in the Sarbananda Sonowal government, themselves flouted government instructions not to organise any mass gathering in the wake of the spread of coronavirus. The organisers also violated the standing order of the Additional District Magistrate of Sivasagar not to hold any meetings till further orders.
