AGP seeks CCTV cameras at polling stations

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Feb 4 Alleging that the Congress is using the administration in its favour to win Panchayat elections, the AGP leader Prafulla Mahanta today asked the State Election Commission to install adequate CCTV cameras at the polling stations and to ensure that the video recordings of the polling booths are flashed on screens for all to see.

The AGP has also written to the State EC asking for announcement of results after every round of polling.

The counting is done in several rounds and we want the authorities to announce the results after every round of counting and such results should be given to all the political parties in written form, to ensure transparency in the Panchayat polls, Mahanta said addressing a press conference here.

A delegation of the AGP would move the EC on the issue.

In a memorandum to the Governor of Assam, the AGP has written about sabotage by Congress workers at AGP office at Barhampur, violation of code of conduct by State

Education Minister by announcing the appointment of 50,000 teachers, in his election speech at Moran and poll campaign by a State Block Development Officer in favour of a Congress candidate at Rupohi.

Also criticizing the State government for its failure to stop rhino killings in the State, Mahanta said that Tarun Gogoi is not at all concerned about the rhino-killings in the State.
