AGP protest rally against price rise

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 24 - Members of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today took out a procession in the city to register their protest against the failure of the Government to arrest rise in the prices of essential items.

The members of the Guwahati city committee of the party paraded the main roads of the city from AT Road office of the party and reached its Ambari headquarters, via Fancy Bazar and Panbazar.

The participants of the procession led by party general secretary Ramendra Narayan Kalita and its vice president Biraj Kumar Sarma, alleged that both the governments at the State and Centre have failed miserably to arrest the rise in the prices of the essential commodities.

They also alleged that while the Central government has been working on behalf of the capitalists in this respect, the syndicates patronised by the State government have also been triggering rise in the prices of the essential items. The public distribution system of the State has also become nonexistent, they alleged.
