NALBARI, July 19 - Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora today appealed to the people to register their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Though we are part of the government nobody can stop us in registering our protest against the burning issues of the State, he said while addressing a public rally here today. He also urged upon the people to be united in this regard. The Bill will severely affect the State for which we will oppose tooth and nail, he added.

Opposing the Bill, former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta observed that Central Government should initiate discussions with its Bangladesh counterpart to take back the Bangladeshi nationals settled in various parts of the State.

He also appealed to the Centre to scrap the Bill as it is against the interest of the indigenous people of the State.

The meeting, which was conducted by Dr Kamala Kalita was also addressed among others by Birendra Prasad Baishya, Keshab Mahanta, MLA Satyabrat Kalita, Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Nurul Hussain.
