GUWAHATI, May 4 � The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today announced a three-day mourning, following the death of its senior leader Kartik Hazarika at the Apollo Hospital, Chennai around 5.30 pm today. A former general secretary of the AGP, Hazarika was also president of the All Assam Students� Union in the 1985-86 term immediately after signing of the Assam Accord. At the time of his death, Hazarika was a member of the AGP central executive committee.
Hazarika was undergoing treatment for his liver-related ailments at the Apollo Hospital, Chennai. He was suffering from the liver-related ailments following a road accident some years back. He was also associated with the Ban Theatre, Tezpur for quite a long time.
In a condolence message, AGP president Atul Bora described him as a dedicated follower of regionalism and a committed party worker. He said that the AGP flag will be flown in half-mast for three days mourning the death of Hazarika. He extended his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved members of Hazarika�s family.
Former Chief Minister and senior AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta also mourned the death of Hazarika and extended his heartfelt sympathy to Hazarika�s bereaved family.
The All Assam Students� Union has mourned the death of its former president Kartik Hazarika. The North East Students� Organisation has also mourned Hazarika�s death.
