AGP leader Atul Ch Saikia passes away

TEZPUR, July 5 - Founder secretary of Tezpur Chapter AGP, noted social worker, cultural activist, sportsman and established cultivator of Tezpur Atul Chandra Saikia passed away today around 9:30 am at Baptist Christian Hospital here. Late Saikia was a resident of Dekargaon near here. He was 83.

Late Saikia was the founder secretary and later he became the president of the district committee of the regional political party. He played an important role during the Assam Agitation in the district. In later years, he became the chief councillor of Tezpur Mahakuma Parishad and chairman of Tezpur Development Authority. He was also a member of Dekargaon Zila Parishad.

He was a man of amiable nature and was hard working, for which he was loved by all sections of the society. Various organisations including Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Tezpur Bar Association, Tezpur Municipality Board, Tezpur Development Authority, Sonitpur District Committee CPI (M), Tezpur AASU, People�s Democratic Right Committee paid their last tributes to the veteran leader and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
