AGP hopeful of bagging 2 Lok Sabha seats

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 20 - Notwithstanding the assessment made by the BJP regarding the likely outcome of the Lok Sabha polls, junior NDA partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today said that it is hopeful of winning at least two of the three seats where it has fielded its own candidate.

What State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said yesterday is based on the feedback from within his own party. We do not agree with it. The results will be out on May 23. So all should wait till May 23, AGP general secretary Manoj Saikia told this newspaper.

Asked how many seats the regional party hopes to secure in the Lok Sabha polls, Saikia said, We believe we will win from at least two out of the three constituencies which we contested.

AGPs assertion comes a day after Dass said that the BJP has received detailed feedback from its cadres at the booth level regarding the voting pattern in the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of the State. As per the assessment made by the State BJP, the party is confident of winning from all the 10 seats where it fielded candidates, while its alliance partners AGP and BPF, which together fielded candidates in four constituencies, are likely to draw a blank.

Saikia said that the regional party has performed well in the constituencies which were allotted to it.

As part of the seat-sharing arrangement among the NDA partners, the BJP had fielded its own candidates in 10 out of the 14 seats of Assam, while three constituencies Dhubri, Barpeta and Kaliabor were allotted to the AGP and the Kokrajhar seat to the BPF.
