AGP gears up for panchayat poll

By Correspondent

NAGAON, Dec 14 Construction of four-lane highways, extension of BG line, bridges over the river Brahmaputrfa, establishment of NRL etc., were the credit of AGP which was in power in 1985 and 1996. This was stated by AGP chief and former CM PK Mahanta while addressing a huge gathering at Nagaon on December 12.

The meeting was organised by AGPs Nagaon, Hojai, Kalibor and Morigaon district committees as part of observance of peoples awareness month, which started on November 24 and will continue till December 24.

Mahanta further said that Congress was not with the common people but was with the EVM machines. Free textbooks, uniforms, mid-day meals, different schemes of NRHM were being implemented in the entire country and were being funded by the Centre. The State Congress had nothing to do with these schemes.

The AGP chief further alleged that Congress Government took loans from banks but they are not taking initiative to repay them. AGP Government repaid the loans taken by the then Hiteswar Saikia-led Government from Peerless finance company, he alleged.

Mahanta further alleged that Government failed to control the prices of essential commodities and had given red carpet welcome to Walmart which will destroy Indias economy. It also failed to control the communal tension in BTAD and other areas of the State, creating a commission raj through panchayat etc., he said.

He appealed to the people of the State to strengthen AGP in the coming panchayat poll as well as in the Assembly and Parliamentary elections.

Nagaon district AGP chairperson, former MLA Atul Kr Sharma was on the chair. Former Minister Girindra Kumar Baruah welcomed the guests.

The meeting started with a silent prayer for the departed soul of Sahidul Alam Choudhury, Abdus Sattar, Kandarpa Saikia, Sanjib Bara, Bhaskar Saikia,, Prasanta Sharma, Saraswati Singha, and Pandit Ravi Shankar.

Party leaders including Barki Prasad Telenga, Nurul Hussain, Bubul Das, working president Atul Bara, Gunin Hazarika, Durga Das Bodo, and Keshab Mahanta also addressed the gathering. All the speakers criticised CM Tarun Gogoi for his failure on all fronts as well as for his remarks that right to suicide is fundamental right.

The speakers also observed that Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain failed to protect rhinos and other animals. To deport foreigners is the responsibility of Central Government and that is why Congress has no right to speak against AGP Government for not able to deport foreign nationals during their rule.
