AGP flays Centre over move on power project

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 3 The AGP today lambasted the Narendra Modi-led Government at the Centre for its directing the authorities concerned to resume construction of the 2000 MW Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP).

It has warned of vigorous agitation to frustrate the attempts at constructing the mega dam projects in the NE region, which will involve the interest of the States people.

In a statement here, the regional party has described the above act of the Central Government as an act of deceit on the people of Assam. The trust reposed by the States people on Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) now stands to be breached with this act, said the regional party.

AGP working president Atul Bora termed the BJP as a party of double-speak. The people of the State have been opposing the mega dam projects for quite a long time. During the course of their agitation, they have been subjected to harassment and atrocities by the police.

The BJP lent its support to the peoples movement on the issue prior to the Lok Sabha polls only to attract the votes of the States people. But the real face of the BJP has now come to the open, Bora said.

The AGP will continue to oppose the mega dam projects and the decision of the Central Government on the LSHEP.
