AGP demands special audit in all districts

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 3 Reiterating its demand for resignation of the Chief Minister owing responsibility for the Rs 1,000-crore scam in the NC Hills, the Asom Gana Parishad today demanded special audits in all the districts of the State.

In a press meet here today, party president Chandra Mohan Patowary said that whatever has appeared in the AGs special audit in NC Hills is just the tip of the iceberg.

Now the Chief Minister and the State government spokesperson Himanta Biswa Sarma are beating about the bush making unconvincing comments on the issue, whereas the truth is there in black and white for all to see, said Patowary.

The Chief Minister received the special report on August 23, though he later on denied receiving the same. Moreover, the matter was not taken up with the NC Hills Council despite large-scale fund anomalies underlined in the report. Neither did the government take any step to reply to the queries from the AG Office. All these facts indicate the State government and the Chief Minister himself were involved in the scam, the AGP leader further said.

Countering the government spokesperson Himanta Biswa Sarmas version that the additional amount could have been released for salary and pension of the employees, or for incentives for doctors, Patowary said that every page of the special report is filled with large-scale corruption and the magnitude of the scam is not ignorable.

Moreover, according to the MoU between the State government and the district council, money can not be transferred from one major head to another major head without permission of the State government.

Significantly, a large chunk of the total amount has been given under the planning section and as a Minister of the Planning and Development Department in the first term of the Gogoi government, Himanta Biswa Sarma played a crucial role in the financial mismanagement, he added.

The AGP also alleged that such a large-scale financial anomaly cannot happen without the knowledge and involvement of the State Finance Department. Being the in-charge of the Finance Department the Chief Minister was definitely not unaware of the whole episode, he said.
