AGP demands bridge over Brahmaputra

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 19 - The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has sent memorandums to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari and Assam Governor PB Acharya demanding urgent steps to construct a bridge over Brahmaputra to link North Guwahati with Guwahati. It also demanded a treatment to the Brahmaputra at par with that meted out to the Ganga.

The memorandum, signed by AGP publicity secretary Manoj Saikia, who is also the president of the partys Jalukbari Assembly Constituency Committee, said thousands of students and people engaged in various vocations cross the river by country boats inviting risks to their lives. This is despite the progress attained in the fields of science and technology, the memorandum lamented. A bridge to connect North Guwahati and Guwahati will also help in reducing traffic problems faced in the city. Moreover, the issue of alienation of North Guwahati from Guwahati city may also be effectively tackled with such a bridge, the memorandum added.
