GUWAHATI, March 20 - NDA constituent Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will soon announce its candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls and the party is confident of winning from all the three constituencies where it will contest.

This was stated by AGP president and State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora here today.

Bora said the regional party will first announce its nominee for the Kaliabor constituency, which will go to the polls in the first phase on April 11, and later declare its candidates for the Barpeta and Dhubri constituencies.

As part of the seat-sharing arrangement among the NDA partners, the BJP will contest 10 out of the 14 seats in Assam in the Lok Sabha polls, while three constituencies (Kaliabor, Barpeta and Dhubri) have been allotted to the AGP and one (Kokrajhar) to the BPF.

Meanwhile, former AASU vice president Mani Madhav Mahanta officially joined the AGP at the partys Ambari headquarters here today. Large number of AGP workers assembled at the party office to welcome Mahanta, who is the younger brother of AGP working president and State minister Keshab Mahanta.

The senior leaders of AGP sacrificed their ministerial positions to protect the identity of the indigenous people of Assam on the issue of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. They showed courage. I have joined AGP on account of the spirit of sacrifice and courage shown by the party, he said.

Mahanta said that he will fulfil whatever responsibility is entrusted to him by the party. According to sources, Mahanta will be AGPs candidate from Kaliabor constituency in the Lok Sabha polls.
