By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 25 The general house of the regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in its meeting held here today, extended the term of the present central committee of the party, headed by Atul Bora, by another year. In a bid to prepare the party for the 2016 Assembly elections, the meeting adopted a number of important decisions concerning the party organisation. It also sought to bring about a semblance of unity among the party leaders keeping the 2016 elections in view.

According to AGP publicity secretary Manoj Saikia, the meeting also formed the party's Parliamentary Board with former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta as its chairman and AGP Legislature Party Leader Phani Bhusan Choudhury as its secretary.

The meeting also formed a think tank of the party with former party president Brindaban Goswami as its chairman.

The post of working president, which was lying vacant for quite a long time with the elevation of Atul Bora to the post of party president, has also been filled up by the meeting with party general secretary Keshab Mahanta.

The general house also adopted a programme to initiate a reformation in the party organisation and it decided to prepare a detailed charge-sheet (Maha-Abhijog Nama) against the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) listing their acts of deceit and corruption. This charge-sheet will be used to generate awareness among the people on the deceit and corruption perpetrated by both the parties, Saikia said.

After discussing the issues connected with the updating of the 1951 National Register of Citizens (NRC), the general house asked the party central committee to form district and Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) level awareness committees with prominent citizens, lawyers and party members to make the people aware of the intricacies of the process of updating this vital document, said the AGP publicity secretary.
