AGP call to safeguard ethnic people

NEW DELHI, Aug 18 � Decrying the delay in implementation of Assam Accord, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MP Biren Baishya called for safeguard of ethnic people of Assam and revitalisation of the Ashok Paper Mill.

Making a Special Mention in the Rajya Sabha, Baishya said even after 26 years of signing of the Assam Accord, the Centre has failed to implement core clauses. This is betrayal against the people of Assam. The detection and deportation of illegal migrants, deletion of their names from voters� list, border fencing besides, NRC update, are very slow.

While highest priority has been given to Indo-Pakistan border, with shoot-at-sight order, the Indo-Bangladesh border remains open. This porous border is easily accessible for HuJI and jehadi elements along with illegal foreign nationals, he alleged.
