GUWAHATI, March 31 - Bringing the issue of illegal financial institutions in the State, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today held the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi responsible for the large scale chit fund scam in the State. The party asserted its stand for impartial and thorough investigation into the scams by Saradha, Rose Valley, Jeevan Suraksha and other groups.

More than Rs 10,000 crore was looted from the people of the State by 167 illegal financial institutions in the tenure of the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who was also in-charge of the Finance and the Home departments, said party spokesperson Alaka Desai Sarma, addressing the media here.

In 15 years of its rule, when these non banking financial groups were expanding their network in the State, it was the responsibility of the Home department to check whether the necessary permission have been obtained by the RBI, SEBI and district magistrates, she said.
