BAIHATA CHARIALI, Dec 1 With a view to revive its past glory in the Jalukbari LAC and bring the constituency under its control, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has been trying to strengthen its base. The regional party organised a meeting at the rural library, Baihata Chariali on Sunday in this connection.

Participating in the meeting, Manoj Saikia, central general secretary of the Asom Yuba Parishad (AYJ) said that in order to achieve success in the forthcoming Assembly polls in the Jalukbari LAC, the party members and workers including the general people who have faith in the regional party should come forard unitedly to eradicate the corrupt Congress rule in the State.

Saikia said that the corruption of the Congress has left a bitter taste in the mouths of the general people. So a large number of people have joined the AGP, he claimed.

The general secretary of the AYP also maintained that the position of the AGP in the Jalukbari constituency has improved than earlier. In the meeting presided over by Munindra Sarma, Utpal Kalita, general secretary of the AGP Agdala Anchalik Committee, Chandisen Deka and Umesh Deka, advisors of the AGPs Agdala Anchalik committee, Jayanta Kumar Nath, vice president of the AYP, Ganesh Das and Jyoti Prasad Tamuli chief convenor and convenor of the AGP, Jalukbari LAC committee, stressed the need to strengthen party activities among the people of the constituency. They also discussed other vital topics related to the forthcoming Assembly elections to attract the general people to the regional party.

Munindra Sarma, the president of the meeting, urged the party activists to work hard at the grassroots level to build a strong base of the party among the common people of the constituency. In the same meeting, the committee of the Agdala Anchalik Yuba Parishad was constituted with Jadab Deka as president and Sonatan Deka as general secretary.

Press meet at North Guwahati: At a meet the press held here at Rajaduar under the initiative of the secretary of Asom Yuva Parishad, Manoj Saikia and other office bearers of AGP, including Ganesh Das and Jayanta Kumar Das, the strategy of the AGP to fight the ensuing election at Jalukbari LAC was made public.

While focussing on rampant corruption, misrule and Congressikaran of various schemes meant for the poor and downtrodden sections of the society in the prestigious Jalukbari LAC, Saikia asserted that the present MLA of Jalukbari constituency, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had been quashing all norms of running a government as a lawmaker.

The MLA, who is also a minister, has encouraged a section of the large traders to shape the destiny of a large section of the cultivators in areas under North Guwahati revenue circle, he alleged.

The AGP which has 21 anchalik samities with three wings like the Asom Yuba Parishad, Asom Mahila Parishad and Asom Shram Parishad, is now stronger due to the joining of hundreds of new members coming from BJP, Congress and AUDF, Saikia said.

The Jalukbari constituency considered to be an invincible rampart during the tenure of the late AGP leader Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, is now degraded in all fronts and none but the henchmen and the MLA himself have been benefitted by the various welfare oriented schemes launched so far, said the spokesmen of the AGP.

According to Manoj Saikia, there are mainly three candidates, including himself, Bisweswar Deka and Puspa Deka in the fray in the prestigious Jalukbari constituency for the ensuing hustings.
