Aggrieved local youths clean drain

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Sept 26 - The youths of Lankeswar under Ward No. 1 of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) conducted a drive to clear the blocked drains in their area here on Saturday, after their repeated pleas to the authorities went unheard.

The youths complained that the drains on both sides of the road from Paschim Jalukbari Lankeswar Rajohua Namghar to Paschim Guwahati LP School have not been cleared for several years.

"The drainage line got completely blocked. We repeatedly requested the authority concerned to clear the drains and renovate them as well but no action has been initiated till date. The garbage were pulled out with the help of excavator and dumped at a proper place," a youth said.

The youths also urged Guwahati West MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita for taking up the issue immediately with the authority concerned so that the drainage system of the area can be improved.
