By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 22 - In protest against the indifferent attitude of the Central Government towards different demands of its employees, more than 400 Central employees, workers and pensioners participated in the human chain programme in front of Meghdoot Bhawan here today.

The protest programme was organised by the Coordination Committee of Central Government Employees & Workers, Assam State Committee.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, the Coordination Committee of Central Government Employees & Workers, Assam State Committee said the government at the Centre is yet to fulfil different genuine and legitimate demands of 32 lakh Central Government employees and 33 lakh Central Government pensioners.

The Coordination Committee stated that despite assurances given by the Union Finance Minister in June last year, minimum pay, fitment formula and other allowances have not been increased till date. The Central Government has not yet fulfilled its promise to accept the favourable recommendations of 7th CPC of option-1 for parity of pensions.

The Coordination Committee further stated that the judgement of the Supreme Court for "equal pay for equal work" is still being denied to thousands of casual and contract workers. At present, 6 lakh posts are also lying vacant in different departments of the Central Government, the statement added.

It was also announced by the Coordination Committee that it would continue its struggle with other sections of the working class against the anti-labour and anti-people policies of the NDA Government at the Centre.
