Agatha to lay stone of Sarat Singha sugar mill

DERGAON, March 15 � The foundation stone of the proposed Sarat Chandra Singha Co-operative Sugar Mill at Khakandaguri in Golaghat district will be laid by Central Minister Agatha Sangma on March 21. The minister will also take stock of the erosion of river Dhansiri at Dhodang gaon. This was stated by Mridul Saikia, president of the Sugar Mill Construction Preparatory Committee at a press meet at Khakandaguri.

The meet held with Mridul Saikia in the chair was attended by Bedanga Bordoloi, Runu Saikia, Ajit Hazarika and Abani Borthakur. Explaining the objective of the meeting Prabin Bora, secretary of the preparation committee explained the different aspect of the proposed mill.

Data displayed at the meet indicated that 64 bigha of land have been donated by 16 farmers for the mill with a capacity of 2500 metric tonne sugar daily. It also revealed that a total 18,972 hectare of land suitable for sugarcane cultivation in Golaghat district and 60 per cent of these areas are already being used for Sugarcane cultivation.

A four member team headed by Bedanga Bordoloi, the general secretary of NCP visited the site. According to sources the Central minister will arrive Guwahati on March 17 and leave for Delhi on March 22. The news of Agatha�s ensuing visit has ushered in ray of hope for people settled in flood-prone areas.
