Agartala Municipal Council to make �city plan�

AGARTALA, Dec 15 � Agartala Municipal Council (AMC) has embarked on a mission to prepare a well-designed �city plan� for next 25 years in view of the growing population in urban areas.

The civic body authority has already a meeting with Prof Ranjit Mitra, an expert of National School of Planning and Architecture (NSPA), said member of Chairperson in Council (CPC), AMC, Shyamal Roy here on Thursday.

After the meeting, Prof Mitra visited some places of extended areas of the capital town to see the ground reality. �We had a detailed discussion on how to improve the urban facilities like sewerage, solid waste management, scientific waste disposal management, drinking water, beautification of water bodies and revenue collection�, he said.

Chairperson of AMC Dr Prafulljit Sinha who had presided over the meeting has requested the expert to place suggestions so that AMC authority could take initiatives accordingly, he said adding that Prof Mitra had exhorted the AMC authority to strive for self reliance by way of increasing revenue collection.

As per the latest census, the population under AMC area has gone up to 3.97 lakh which was 3.68 lakh in the last census (2001). In view of the growing population in AMC areas, a well-designed city plan is needed to make the city a model one.
