AGARTALA, Dec 8 - A passenger train service from Agartala to Belonia, covering a distance of 58 km, is likely from January next year if everything goes in the right order.
The newly-built rail track from Santir Bazar-Belonia in South Tripura district has already successfully undergone CRS inspection. Sailesh Kumar Yadav, who led the inspection, termed the track outstanding on December 2.
Now the report is under the consideration of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Lumding. There is no need to get permission from the Railway Board to extend passenger train service. The DRM can do so, said an NFR official here today.
Currently, a passenger train service is available up to Garjee under the Udaipur subdivision. The service has not been extended from Garjee to Santir Bazar even after a CRS clearance.
With the CRS inspection done up to Belonia, the passenger train service from Garjee to Belonia via Garjee and Santir Bazar is very much feasible, said the official.
The demand for extension of the train service from Agartala to Belonia has been made for a long time by the local people.
