GUWAHATI, Sept 11 � Assam Financial Corporation, (AFC) the premier financial corporation of ne India has been rendering its services in promoting micro, small and medium scale industries in the region for more than 55 years. Besides its core activity the corporation has taken an initiative for creating a green environment by facilitating planting about 14000 fruit bearing saplings per year in a continuous basis through its benefeciaries. HS Das, Principal Secretary, Assam formally launched the programme at a function held at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara, here on September 8.
The programme is aimed at creating general awareness amongst the common people about the need to preserve the environment by planting more trees necessitated due to massive deforestations.
The Managing Director of Assam Financial Corporation, MS Manivannan, in his welcome address explained in brief about the programme. He stated that the programme is designed initially to plant fruit bearing saplings through the beneficiaries under the Chief Minister�s Micro Finance Scheme. Being at the grass root level, the SHGs/JLGs can be instrumental in creating general awareness amongst them about protection of the environment.
The Corporation has earmarked to release a total amount of Rs. 10.00 crores through its Micro Finance Scheme and the total number of beneficiaries is expected to be around 14000 nos.
HS Das, Principal Secretary (Finance) Govt of Assam in his address as chief guest lauded the effort of the Corporation which being a financial institution has taken up the initiative for creating awareness about preserving the environment amongst the general public. He stressed on the need to preserve the nature and appeal to all not to destroy forest resources in the name of development.
Surajit Barua, co-ordinator, WWF, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, S Benarjee, advisor NEITCO Ltd and V Sridhar GM (SIDBI) spoke on the occasion and lauded the initiative taken by AFC for launching the green corporation for preserving the environment.
