AFA set up new committee

GUWAHATI, Sept 21 � Hemendra Nath Brahma and Ankur Dutta have been re-elected as president and secretary respectively of the Assam Football Association (AFA) for a term of next four years.

The AFA annual general meeting was held at Dhaligaon today where the new governing council of the State football body was set up after holding election.

Brahma (61) defeated Babul Hore (48) of Silchar by 61 votes. Other candidate for the presidential post Motilal Nunisa got only five votes.

Balin Chetia of Sadia (A Zone) and Bhakti Medhi of Goalpara (D Zone) were elected a vice presidents. Chetia (53) defeated Juga Dutta (51) of Tinsukia by just two votes while Medhi (59) defeated Maguram Balari (52) of Kokrajhar by seven votes.

On the other hand Ankur Dutta (83) defeated Ramesh Phukan (29) by a big margin of 54 votes in a straight contest.

Nirmal Chetia (70) of Jorhat and Plabon Baruah (65) of Nagaon were elected as joint secretaries. The third candidate for this post Sanjib Sarma of Golaghat got 57 votes.

Dilip Medhi (Nalbari), Pranil Daimary (Udalguri) and Arun Dutta (Titabor) were elected as assistant secretaries.
