GUWAHATI, May 15 - The misunderstanding regarding reducing the number of seats in the Assam Engineering College (AEC) here has been settled and the formal announcement in this regard is expected within the next couple of days, said the Director of Technical Education, Assam, Dr Atul Bora.

Dr Bora told The Assam Tribune that there was a misunderstanding following the arrest of an antisocial element in the AEC campus as it was wrongly reported that the arrested person was a student of the college. Following the incident, the All India Council for Technical Education wanted to reduce the number of seats in the college. But the matter has now been settled and the formal announcement is likely shortly.

Dr Bora revealed that there are 975 seats in the engineering colleges of the State in the government sector and the Assam Engineering College has the lion�s share with 420 seats in the first year.
