GUWAHATI, Aug 20 Art has received a new meaning of late with more young and upcoming artists using the brush for a social cause or highlighting the ills in the society. The reality, though terrifying and harsh, is emerging as the muse for many artists in the State. One of such artists, inspired by the upheavals of the State, is Abhijit Kashyap, who has participated in many international events.

Kashyap, who recently showcased his work at an art event in Bhutan, has been advocating for peace and unity through the medium of colours. He firmly believes that the creative medium can usher in the new dawn for which everyone is waiting for.

My art is for the people. So my works are inspired by the people and their issues, said Kashyap observing that most of the upcoming artists in the State do not sit in the comfort zone. He asserted that the young artists feel a responsibility towards the society and they voice their pain and angst through their creativity on canvas.

Though from engineering background, Kashyap chose to be an artist. He has no regrets for shunning a high profile job and devoting himself for a cause to spread the message of peace in a conflict-hit society. It needs to be mentioned here that though exploring thematic variation is a great satisfaction for this artist, the overall characteristic that is perceptible in the works of this artist is his consciousness about the ambience surrounding him and effort to reflect the reality on canvas.

Every transition, every turmoil affects my art. The repercussion that followed in the State following the Telangana Statehood was very unfortunate. Further division of Assam will spell its doom. At this hour, the people have to be united. So I have decided to appeal to the people to exercise restraint and work towards peace and unity through my work, said Kashyap.

Kashyap is going to participate in another exhibition in Chicago later this year.
